Murmuration Engram explores how our experiences and environments gradually shape who we become. The painting draws inspiration from a murmuration—the collective movement of thousands of starlings, where each bird responds to those around it and, through countless local interactions, contributes to a larger form that is constantly changing.

This became a metaphor for an engram, the physical trace of memory represented by changing networks of neurons. In the painting, each bird can be imagined as a neuron, while the murmuration becomes a memory taking shape: emerging not from a single element, but through relationships, interactions and continuous change.

The surrounding landscape extends this idea. The branching silhouettes of the trees echo neuronal forms, while the layered sky and its reflection suggest different layers of experience. Above and below, similar forms appear in different configurations, reflecting how even shared beginnings can develop into very different trajectories.

Murmuration Engram is ultimately a reflection on the relationship between memory, experience and individuality—how what we carry within us is continuously shaped and reshaped by the environments through which we move.
