The Language Wihtin: Mitochondrial Translation
The hidden moment when mitochondrial RNA is read and transformed into the proteins that sustain cellular energy and life.
Within the folded membranes of a mitochondrion, a microscopic language is continually being read. Mitochondrial ribosomes move along strands of messenger RNA, while transfer RNAs deliver amino acids to build new proteins. The painting captures translation at different moments—from initiation and elongation to the release of a completed peptide—with newly synthesized proteins guided toward the inner mitochondrial membrane.
The flowing RNA, clustered ribosomes and layered cristae transform this molecular process into a living landscape. The Language Within reflects on how genetic information becomes matter: how an invisible sequence of nucleotides is interpreted, assembled and ultimately transformed into proteins that sustain cellular energy and life.
